The children's illustration group that I'm with, Studio 5, took a break to do a sort of mini-sketchcrawl at Disneyland. Opportunities for images were everywhere. We all worked by our own methods. Mine was ink on paper (Tombow pen with Japanese brushes on watercolor paper.)
Yup, here we are in the morning: bright, energized, idealistic, full of coffee. Left to right: JR Johnson, Marilyn Scott-Waters, Andy Mitchell (me), JH (Ev) Everett.
This was in California Adventure in the little aviation section. Not a bad focus for us as Ev and Marilyn are working on a book for kids on flight.
I spared my spinal column and drew the Hollywood Hotel ride while the other three rode it. Maybe if you look reeeeeally, reeeeeeally close...
A whole day could be spent drawing Main Street, Disneyland alone. This was drawn from the Coca Cola Pavillion thing looking across to the camera shop.
Perspective is merely a guideline. Yeah, that's the ticket. This is the Haunted House. Pretty much, anyway.
We were sorry that the fifth Studio Fiver, Bob Singer, wasn't with us on the trip but we will do another event like this again. It's too much fun. And getting out of the studio to do these loose, immediate on scene drawings is a great exercise.
